Happy 2012! We usually have a good start to the year, celebrating the first day with the family, followed by our wedding anniversary the next day. On our anniversary, Phil and I were lucky to go out on our own. We checked out the Handwritten exhibition at The National Library of Australia before going to The Promenade Cafe at the Hyatt Hotel for a seafood buffet lunch. The exhibition was pretty good (and popular) and the lunch was delicious. We enjoyed indulging ourselves for a couple of hours.
Then it was back to work for me the following day. I still work two days a week but changed my schedule to Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The kids have been going to daycare those two days as well. Poor Nicholas has been over it for awhile, so it’s been tough getting ready in the mornings. Fortunately it’s his last two days this week. Catherine is still happy to go. She apparently has a friend or two now. And after two full-on days, the kids are exhausted by Thursday - the most challenging day of the week.
Despite the rough moments of parenthood, we are enjoying our children and love watching them grow. Can’t believe that Nicholas starts school next month. He’s mentally ready, but it may be physically and emotionally tough on him in the beginning. The five days a week of school might wear him out. Our weekends will probably be very quiet for awhile.
Nicholas has grown more - emotionally. He has less tantrums/outbursts than before, although he can still get really cranky, especially after some screen time. He plays games on the wii, computer or ipod touch now.
Catherine is getting stronger and is up on her feet more. She used to answer every question with a “no”, but just recently started nodding and saying “yes”. She loves making a mess with her food and with markers, drawing on anything but paper when we’re not looking. And when she hears music, she’s always first to dance.
Check out our photos from January by clicking on the photo below. The beginning of the year is summer school holidays in Australia. And there are enough family friendly activities around town to keep us busy. Nicholas always enjoys doing craft and going to K-space at The National Museum of Australia. When weather permits, the kids also love being outside. They like going to playgrounds, splashing in the pool and going on picnics.
A good start
summer
