A good afternoon

Seems like we’ve been going up and down a lot this past month. I blame it on winter. ‘Tis the season for colds and misery. I'm so glad that it's now school holidays and we can rest a bit. As I write this, we have a sick boy in bed on a clear and sunny day. We are again at a low after a high yesterday afternoon. At least we were able to enjoy half of this beautiful weekend with a couple of outings on Saturday.

The boys got their haircuts in the morning while Catherine and I did a bit of grocery shopping. This is rare for us. Usually Phil does the grocery shopping by himself because the children (and sometimes I) can’t tolerate it. But it was a nice and short time out where the children enjoyed milkshakes and a bit of outdoor play.

Back at home for lunch and Catherine fighting to take her afternoon nap. After an exhausting 20 (?) minutes, she finally gave in and fell asleep, leaving us some peace and quiet for the next hour and a half.

From Jul2012

Once Catherine woke up from her sleep and had some food, we packed up and went for a bushwalk at Cooleman Ridge. This was the first time Catherine walked on a trail. Usually Phil and I would have her in a carrier or stroller. It was really pleasant and therapeutic being outdoors. We encountered a horse, a few birds and some fellow walkers. Catherine and I mostly lagged behind, but it was nice taking it slow and enjoying the scenery. I’ve decided it’s one of my favourite places in Canberra.

We probably walked for over an hour. Nicholas was getting a bit tired at the end. Catherine still had energy and did not want to get back in the car. You’d think the walk would have worn her out, but she still gave us a good battle in the evening. In any case we had a good afternoon.
