Three more sleeps

From Dec2012

School’s out and we can finally relax and enjoy the remainder of year. We seem to have gotten into the Christmas spirit early and although it’s been hectic, it’s definitely been a lot of fun too.

So our month has been filled with preparing for Christmas with a guinea pig visit, my birthday, Phil’s conference at Fremantle, WA and a weekend trip to Sydney in between. And we’ve been joining in various festivities in town. Nicholas has been counting down to Christmas since Thanksgiving was over. He was really keen to put up the Christmas tree as soon as possible. Both Nicholas and Catherine enjoyed trimming the tree. Nicholas even helped with assembling it and Catherine would take breaks once in awhile, laying on the floor watching us. We also made another visit to Santa this year. Catherine was scared to sit with Santa this time which is why she’s sitting to the side in the photo.

After a few years of missing out, we were in town for the Christmas festival at the Philippine Embassy this month. We had good food which even the kids enjoyed. They got to go on a jeepney and be immersed in their roots for a couple of hours. Phil and I got a bit nostalgic with the music as it reminded us of Lola and her dancing.

This year Phil was away for my birthday. He had a conference to attend in Fremantle and was away for four days. So my birthday felt a little different, but I did have a nice day. Catherine and I had lunch with friends at the new and only Filipino restaurant in Canberra. Nicholas remembered my birthday in his own way when he moved the star on the advent calendar to the pocket marked number 6. He said, “Look it’s a present for your birthday Mummy!” And finally my day ended with a civilised meal at my in-laws with the children. We had crepes and birthday cake to finish.

Other highlights include Nicholas receiving a merit award at his last school assembly of the year, going on our annual Christmas pilgrimage to Sydney and celebrating Christmas at home with our friends and family.

We’re looking forward to spending Christmas day with family, eating delicious food and enjoying the company. We hope that everyone has a lovely and fun Christmas filled with your favourite things. Happy Christmas!
