4/5. We had a chance to go out for dinner one Friday night to celebrate our Vegas wedding anniversary. We booked an early dinner for 6pm and left the kids with their grandparents. Thanks Mum and Dad! We ordered from the Early Bird Special menu which had to be finished by 7.30pm. We had plenty of time.
Pulp Kitchen is located at the Ainslie shops. The surrounds have a casual feeling and the inside is a nicely set up bistro. There were obviously a few regulars in the restaurant and it was nice to hear them speaking French. I ordered the market fish of the day (flat fish?) and Phil had the hay baked lamb shoulder and braised lamb belly with artichokes. The fish was light and delicious. Phil enjoyed his lamb which was tasty and just the right amount before it became too heavy. We still had room for dessert. I ordered the banana cake with caramelized chocolate and ice cream and Phil chose fresh strawberries with strawberry consomme and sorbet. When dessert came we were both given the strawberries. Our waiter had made a mistake and the manager came over to let me know that I could enjoy the strawberries on them and that the banana cake would be over shortly. The desserts were the best and fun to eat. The blend of textures and flavours worked so well. We were done by 7.15pm and drove up to Mt Ainslie to see some of the sunset before going back to pick up the kids.
We have no pictures of our food or the restaurant thanks to Phil. He suggested we enjoy the time without any photos. I wonder if this made a difference to our experience. It seemed like it might have as we really savoured our food and I can still remember it all quite clearly. We will definitely be back and maybe try their brunch next time.
