Backyard camping

So last night we ventured out and went camping in our backyard. Our family had been talking about going camping for a while. I finally got around to getting a tent for Phil's birthday (last September!). And we finally opened and set it up yesterday for our test run.

Thought we could just let the kids sleep outside but they wanted us to join in too. So we did. We had bedtime snacks. Kids were loving the novelty of it all. It wasn't the most comfortable night for Phil and I as we couldn't get to sleep right away. And we both seem to have been woken up by every single noise. It was surprisingly dead quiet in our neighbourhood. No loud neighbours. Just the occasional motorbike racing a few streets away. We also heard the fireworks from the Canberra Show in the distance. Then there was the cricket right next to Phil's head just outside the tent. Next was the growling possum and some animal (probably the possum) walking throught the grass. The kids slept through all of this and they were just as excited and happy when they woke up. So I guess we might just try this again for real. Stay tuned.
