Double digits!‏

Time and life in general is going way too fast. So looking forward to the school break after this week. Need some down time before we're off again.

Nicholas has just joined the double digits club. Speaking of time gone quickly. We survived a decade of parenthood. Unreal. Our first born has grown from an easy going, sit back and taking in the world kind of baby to a sensitive, kind, thoughtful, creative and independent young man. Maths is his favourite school subject. At home he enjoys drawing, craft, crosswords, word searches and reading non-fiction or Andy Griffiths books while listening to his favourite band, Justice Crew. And a favourite movie in the DVD rotation lately is "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". Favourite show is Odd Squad. Fave colour is green. He is now 132cm|4'4" tall.

We celebrated with a birthday party at Kambah Adventure Playground with his friends. Went really well. Had pizzas for lunch followed by a scavenger hunt, freeze dance tie-breaker and to finish off, had mud cake and kids took home lollies from the lolly bar. Cousins later came over in the afternoon and grandparents joined us for dinner.

We've been a bit sentimental the past week. We remembered Lola and celebrated 100 years since she was born by going out to lunch and eating fried chicken. Growing up it was a Sunday tradition, initiated by Lola, to go out and have fried chicken for lunch after church. So Phil and I ended up finding the best fried chicken we've ever had in Canberra. Went to Chez Kimchi and had KFC (Korean fried chicken). Tasty and less salty than the fried chicken at Kingsley's and Grease Monkey. So good! We also enjoyed the bibimbap.

10 years ago we also threw a 90th birthday party and family reunion for Lola. It was also shortly after we got home from the party that my waters broke and I went into labour. Poor Phil did not get any sleep that night whereas I was able to sleep a bit after I got an epidural. I remember the contractions were strong and painful and I wasn't coping until then. And about 13 hours later Nicholas arrived!

He has since enriched our lives. We have learned a lot about ourselves, being parents and raising children. Caring for him (and Catherine) and the challenges that come with it have helped us become better people. Since he came along we also never realised our capacity to love could grow exponentially. He warms our hearts. Happy birthday to our dear Nicholas!
