That said, I’ve been kind of itching to go away but then I realise how relaxed we’ve been and the thought quickly goes away. Some days are sometimes challenging, especially when it’s too hot to go outside and we’re all going a bit stir crazy at home. But so far, our new year has been pretty good.
We had a family brunch on New Year’s Day which was later followed by a picnic dinner at Weston Park. The next day we celebrated wedding year no. 18. We went out to Poppy’s Cafe at the War Memorial for morning tea to celebrate with the kids (and for Nicholas to play Pokémon Go). The kids enjoyed the milkshakes, Nicholas finished all of his ham and cheese toasties, and Phil and I had the remaining apple crumble slice after Catherine decided she liked that as well as the chocolate donut.
Later that day we dropped off the kids with their grandparents (thank you!) while Phil and I went to see La La Land. We enjoyed the movie – especially the scenes at the Griffith Park Observatory and the spot where Phil had proposed to me. We had dinner at the Capitol Bar & Grill after the movie. The pavlova we had was excellent.

Phil went back to work on Wednesday last week and I went back this week on Monday. We’re taking a few days off here and there until school starts again. So our days since the new year have been filled with going to pools, the cinema (watched Moana with friends), discovering Inflatable World, having picnics, trying to stay cool and even some sleeping in. This morning we went out to the Botanic Gardens for brunch and a relaxing walk in the rainforest. We brought bubbles and had fun watching them slowly float down to the rainforest valley below. Grateful for these little moments.
