High school. Man. It’s overwhelming just thinking about it and Nicholas isn’t even there yet! We just received confirmation that he has a place at the local high school – the same school Phil and his siblings attended. We have mixed feelings but Nicholas seems relieved to know where he’s going next year. For me it seems like such a dramatic change from primary to high school. Class schedules are different day to day and week to week.
The logistics for next year have also been on our minds. Catherine has expressed some concern about how she’ll cope without Nicholas in the same school. Nicholas would often try and console her at school if she was upset. They often spend mornings at the enviro centre together. He ran along side her to the finish line at the Cross Country carnival. And they have been walking home from school together one day a week since the start of term 2. She was not enjoying after school care anymore. Looks like we will have another interesting year of adjustment ahead.
We’re already half-way through the current year and are now accustomed to the changes at the start. I’ve been in my new job for 5 months this Thursday. On my second day, I found out that my boss worked for the same company where I started my PeopleSoft career. Freaky coincidence. I’m enjoying the new environment. I love my scenic drive to and from work, driving past the Arboretum, Black Mountain and Lake Burley Griffin. When I have time, I enjoy my pleasant walks around campus. The work is interesting and challenging. My colleagues are welcoming and very social with morning teas and breakfast happening what feels like every week. I am quite positive at the moment while students are not on campus. Once the students are back, I will probably be in a different mood. Parking is horrendous when everyone is there, especially if you’re a late starter like me. I’ve resigned to the fact that I have to pay extra when all the permit car parks are full by the time I get to work.
Second term of school was eventful. Along with celebrating Catherine’s birthday, enroling for high school and visiting our
long-time friends in Sydney, Phil went away to Barcelona, Spain for a conference. Catherine’s class hosted an assembly and she received a merit award. Nicholas has been involved in the media committee and assisted with assembly slides and his class recently had an excursion to Parliament House which he enjoyed. They also both attended the school disco which was the best one ever! We’ve been braving the Canberra winter, enjoying the beautiful sunny days, walking Comet and catching up with friends and family. The kids are now on school holidays and we’re looking forward to relaxing in some warmer temperatures soon.
