We had cake for breakfast! We also had a full-on cooked buffet breakfast. We were fuelled up for more travel into Milan city centre. We took the hotel shuttle back to airport and then the airport to city bus. I didn’t mind the long bus and train rides and found it quite meditative when listening to music and looking out the window. It was a hot day in Milan. The heat was making the kids especially tired and it was quite challenging to get the kids to go out. We eventually caught a metro to the remarkable Duomo. It was a site to see. There were tons of people and pigeons. I think the kids were quite overwhelmed. We walked over to the Galleria and got Catherine to spin on the bull for good luck. We had some good gelato and walked some more. We found a super fancy Starbucks which was quite cool but felt pretentious (there were security guards at the doors!). It was very popular though. There was more walking until we went inside the beautiful Chiesa di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore. Phil and I very much appreciated the frescoes. That was enough for the afternoon so we went back to hotel after I made a quick dash to catch a glimpse of the Castle. The rest did the kids good as they were in a better mood for going out to dinner at Garibaldi – a cool and modern area. We had the most delicious pasta and pizza. I even tried an Aperol Spritz and the complimentary Limoncello at the end - strong stuff! We ate all the food. It was lovely. We walked to the park afterwards where the kids had a play and we ate more gelato.
