It’s the last week of summer school holidays for us. Can’t believe the six week break is nearly over. I think the kids will find it nice to get back into a routine again. We’ve done well keeping busy and having fun, but our household seems to do better with schedules and knowing what to expect from day to day.
It’s been a good summer – very warm and dry. Currently, we’re in the middle of a heatwave with temperatures over 35°C | 95°F all week. Lots of slow lazy days, but still managing to get out and play.
We’ve had a couple of visitors, including my mom, so we’ve been out and about introducing them to some new eats and attractions around Canberra. We’ve been seeking relief at the movies and the pool. Other pastimes include drawing, watching cricket almost everyday on the TV and playing it in our courtyard when it’s not too hot. The Australian Open has also been of interest this year and we attended a bbq on Australia Day.
Movies: Frozen (4.5), Her (3.5) and Jack Ryan: The Shadow Recruit (3.5)
Eats: PappaRich (lunch:4), Kusina (dinner:3.5), Italian and Sons (dinner:4), National Arboretum Cafe (lunch:3.5), Dobinsons (morning tea:4) and A. Baker (brunch:4)
Show: An Evening with David Sedaris (4.5)
In kids news, Catherine has been “rocking the commode” as a friend said. She got the hang of it in Adelaide of all places. In that respect, she should be ready to move into the preschool room at childcare next week. Nicholas will be starting year 2 on Tuesday. We just picked up his school pack and he’s already labelled all his books and supplies. I think he’s looking forward to going back to school. Here’s hoping for a smooth start to the new school term.
