We just returned from 3 nights in Melbourne visiting family. It was a fun weekend filled with playing and watching cricket, eating delicious food, drinking good cheap coffee, walking in and watching the rain, exploring the city and the zoo.
We arrived to a warm and humid Melbourne. Went to the nice local park overlooking the Melbourne skyline and played cricket. It was a perfect afternoon to end with the best gelato in town. The flavours were amazing.
The next day was stormy. Went to the local bakery and bought rolls for dinner at the game later and hung around for morning tea. Good coffee and donuts (even scored a free donut from the friendly shopkeeper!). Took the tram into the city and spent a few hours at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image - a favourite museum. Made a couple of these. Stopped for a long browse at the Hill of Content bookshop before gelato break where Phil spotted Lior! Then off to catch the Melbourne Stars beat the Perth Scorchers. Catherine fell asleep for most of the game. She managed to wake up later for our tram rides home.
Woke up to another overcast day. Ventured out to the zoo – another favourite attraction. Butterflies, monkeys and elephants were the highlights. The sun eventually came out. Kids still had energy for a play at the best city park located next to the children’s hospital which was then capped off by another visit to the best gelato in town.
On our last morning we waited for the showers to subside and eventually got some time in for one last play at the local park. The boys played basketball. For our last meal, we had the best kababs. Pleasantly surprised by the generosity of the locals. Got a free pita bread for the kids to share for lunch. Dropped off at the airport soon afterwards.
