Spring has arrived. Sort of. We’ve had the pleasure of some warmer days but it’s still a bit too cool and wet for my liking. The SoCal in me is itching for the consistent warm temperatures already!
Nicholas and I got our fitness on and took part in the Canberra Times 5km (3mi) Fun Run at the start of the month. It was a great achievement for both of us. Nicholas finished at 00:33:15 beating his PB and placed 510 of 1,488 overall and 55 of 133 in his gender and age group. I was about 7 minutes behind him. I actually jogged more than I have since my last injury 2 years ago. It felt great to finish and I wasn’t too sore afterwards. We were even greeted by a cheering crew (Phil, Catherine and grandparents) at the end which was especially nice.
Catherine’s latest milestone was speaking at the school assembly and asking everyone to stand up for the national anthem. She said it clearly and confidently. We were all so proud of her. This was later followed by her class dancing and singing.
Since the last post, we’ve welcomed a new member to our family, Comet. It has been an adjustment learning the ways and habits of a dog. We rescued him from the pound on the 25th of August, so he’s been with us for over 3 weeks now. He’s a good dog, but he does like to bolt. We learned the hard way the morning after we got him. Since then we’ve learned to close and lock everything behind us. He seems to like his new home. He’s very active and loves to play fetch whenever possible. Taking him for a walk is still challenging and not quite enjoyable yet. We’ve signed up for dog training so hopefully we can all learn a few things from it.
