Growing pains

I’m counting down the days until Spring arrives. We just had a glimpse of it the past couple of days - so nice! But the cold and rain have returned. Canberra winters are still hard to bear, even after being here for a significant amount of time. The end of this winter will mark our 10-year move-aversary to Australia.

Nicholas and Catherine have changed and grown quite a bit since the beginning of winter. We’re all facing new and different experiences which has made life sometimes bumpy for us lately. Our 10-year-old now walks home from school 2 times a week. He also ran his first 5km parkrun last month in about 36 minutes. And we’ve just signed up to do the upcoming Canberra 5km Fun Run together (more like he’ll run way ahead of me!). These milestones have been a good boost to his confidence. Other changes include growing out his hair and having a new circle of friends after his close ones from last year moved schools. He has had some struggles lately, but we’ve been working through it and things are gradually improving.

We suspect Catherine has had a growth spurt as well. She recently lost her two front teeth. She seems to be enjoying kindergarten but unfortunately, it feels like her teachers this term are changing every week! She’s mostly coping but some days she gets tired and cranky. Another recent milestone for her was going up another level in swimming. There are moments when she seems like such a big girl and I forget that she’s still in kindergarten, learning to read and write.

I survived City2Surf in Sydney. One thing off my bucket list! It was an awesome experience and I’m so glad that I walked with my friend, Mandy. I got my exercise and city buzz at the same time. I took a bus to and from Sydney by myself. It was all very easy and efficient. It was especially nice to have my family meeting me at the bus station when I arrived home.

On the night I left for Sydney, Oriana Chorale had a concert which world premiered a piece Phil wrote. He also sang the bass solo. It was a special night and he received a nice review.

Here's a nice short video Google created from some of our recent photos:
